very good for 2nd year university inorganic chemistry
By A.Reader1
There are two books with the title of “Descriptive Inorganic Chemistry”, both directed at sophomore level intro inorganic chemistry. There’s this 2nd edition by House & House and another book by Rayner-Canham & Overton, currently in its 6th edition.

Both textbooks approach the subject in a less rigorous, less mathematical way using the periodic table to survey the most important elements and their chemistry. Typically used in courses which come before the student has encountered major amounts of advanced, theoretical physical chemistry. Each book has a minimal amount of transition metal and organometallic chemistry.

The Rayner-Canham book covers more material and certainly has more end-of-chapter questions. But overall I like this black & white book by House & House better. The font size and general layout is more readable, the end of chapter annotated references are more relevant, the chapter material is a bit more concise and to-the-point and the problem sets contain fewer questions. That way, the instructor can assign any chapter along with the questions as homework and know that everything’s been covered and the students aren’t overwhelmed with too much work.

The one major shortcoming of House & House is that the early foundational chapters on bonding are much too limited on topics like VSEPR, valence bond theory, covalent/ionic/metallic bonding. Perhaps they intended lecturers to cover that material in class with whatever depth they deemed necessary. (update: Looks like some of these topics have been added to the 3rd edition. But they had to go to a smaller font to add this extra material and still keep the book to a reasonable size; too bad on the smaller font size)

You can now get the 3rd edition of House & House but I like it less due to its full color printing. Too many colors doesn’t help with learning and makes the book look like a gaudy cartoon. And the full color printing needlessly drives up the price.

The only thing I wish about this 2nd edition is that a hardcover edition was available, but it’s not.

For those of you who only want one book that covers most of the undergraduate inorganic chemistry curriculum except organometallics consider Concise Inorganic Chemistry by J.D. Lee, 5th edition (~1000 pages).

For the part Ionization potenttial, Electron affinity and electronegativity, there is not a clear precise definition of what those terms means.

Mr and Mrs House, please be more careful!!!

In general is a good book, but lacks depth in the topics covered

The lunchbox reinvented: transform the boring routine of your children's packed lunches into cute, edible cartoon characters!

Packing school lunches for fussy children can be a chore. Parents are bored of making the same old soggy sandwiches every day, and your picky eaters don’t even show any appreciation when they return their lunchboxes with uneaten veggies and scrappy bits. What if you could entice your children to eat balanced lunches every day? Even better: how do you transform the routine of unoriginal packed lunches into a joy for yourself?

Inspired by the Japanese tradition of the bento box—a home-packed meal served in a box with compartments containing different foods—Yummy Kawaii Bento reinvents the concept of the stale packed lunch. Learn to make your very own creative bento boxes and turn the law of “don’t play with your food” on its head by reimagining dishes as colorful cartoon characters. Entice your children with:

• Teddy bear-shaped mini pizzas
• Hot “dog” buns
• Scrambled egg chicks
• Porky pastas
• Panda bamboo salads…and many more edible critters!

With more than 160 step-by-step tutorials on how to assemble balanced bento boxes, create food art, and cook individual recipes that bridge the East and the West, Yummy Kawaii Bento turns food preparation into an art and makes eating fun again for both parent and child. Soon, your children will boast to their friends about their lunches, and your spouse might even ask for his or her own takeaway lunch! Lunchtime, or dinnertime, will never be the same again.

Great recipe book. Love the cuteness factor!
By Bookwyrm
I bought several Bento items for my daughter for Christmas, including Totoro-themed Bento Boxes, sauce containers, bento bags, recipe books,etc.. She's having a lot of fun creating lunches for her Bento box. And her dad is also reaping the benefit. :) I'll share all the items we bought as we launched wholesale into the Bento adventure. We've cooked many interesting meals - no misses yet! And everyone's had fun with their Bento boxes. Even my husband is enjoying his, which was a surprise.

Since we were starting Bento from scratch, we bought some Bento cookbooks, even though we have some Japanese cookbooks already:

and several Bento items to accommodate lunches with and without soup, etc.

Her main bento box (she never microwaves it, and she washes it by hand). It came with chopsticks, but she also wanted the Totoro utensil set listed below which fits in her bag nicely with this box.
Bento: Studio Ghibli Totoro Design 2-tier Microwavable Bento Lunch Box (Volume: 380ml + 250ml)
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006YG0BU8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

My Neighbor Totoro Stainless Steel Lunch Box LJF3 - great for soups and other items with liquids. Has a folding spoon in the lid, so you can carry just it if you want.

http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AYQQ8Y2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

My Neighbor Totoro Skater Insulated Lunch Cooler Bag, Clover (UBC1) (A bit taller than the bag above, so accommodates differently shaped items. Accepts her Totoro Bento box and the Totoro stainless steel soup container at the same time.)
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AYQQ8Y2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

KOUZINA 36 Baking Cups - Freshware Silicone Molds - to keep items separate in the boxes when needed. Glad we got these! A nice touch!
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B016APXXJ8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

Tupperware Smidget Container 1oz Set of 5 Blue - we bought a couple of sets of these tiny containers for dipping sauces, etc., since the reviews on some of the more eco-freindly choices of sauce containers had a lot of complaints about leakage. These are SO water-tight, it's awesome. They're tiny and perfect for a little terriyaki sauce, egg roll dip, etc. We got one color for my daughter (green ones off of eBay to match her Totoro bento box) and another color for her dad here on Amazon (blue for the win!). Helps keep things sorted.
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/710105482X?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

We also had mercy on my husband and bought him a non-anime Bento Box. It's probably one of the best Bento boxes ever. Very nice design; nice size. Keeps liquids in, etc. If I get a bento box of my own, I'll probably get another one of these. Yes, stainless steel is more eco-friendly, but I'm gonna have to err on the side of leak-free products.

http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B014EX3672?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

For the Kawaii factor, we had to have cutouts for lunch meats and cheese (we have yet to see how they work with home-made lunch meat, but I expect they'll work well):

Yunko Bento Accessories Bears Seals Bunny Chick Bear Shape DIY Rice Ball Mould Korean Laver Take Boarder Sushi Mold Sandwich Mold Mould Cutter Stamp
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B017JMUU88?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QOJGYGK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

Well, that's about it. I think we'll be using all these things for quite a while. It was great to find them on Amazon. Some items come from Japan, but it was worth the wait. :)

Best User-Friendly Cute Bento Cookbook!
By Nami | Just One Cookbook
After having this cookbook and trying some recipes from it for more than 4 months, I'm here to say that this book is really awesome and I highly recommend to anyone from the beginners to more advanced bento makers.

For full disclosure, the author Ming is my blogger friend and I received this book to review for my blog and YouTube channel. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have to say the best part about this cookbook is that it's very user friendly. Here are some of my points:

1) Lots of pictures: There are no single page that does not contain a picture, except for Contents and Glossary. Each recipe has FULL step by step pictures, not just pictures, very detailed, well-photographed pictures. The final photos of the recipes are all beautifully taken, which inspires me to make bentos just like how she makes them.

2) Well organized: The book starts with the explanation of bento, and continues to explain about the bento boxes, tools, and techniques before getting into recipes. Each recipe has a big final picture, detailed ingredients and well-written directions with large step by step pictures. Toward the end, Ming also shares simple quick recipes that can be added to your bento, in case you need one or a few more dishes to pack into bento.

3) Details!: I can't emphasize enough how detailed this cookbook is. I love more pictures and descriptions and this book has them all.

One feedback that I have is that I wish recipes have approx time to prepare the bento or the level of difficulty. As a blogger myself, I know this is a very hard to specify because everyone has different skills and preparation time can vary. However, the general amount of time or level of difficulty will save readers time to figure out which bento to try depending on their level or time they have.

This cookbook contains lots of creative ideas that I wouldn't be able to come up on my own and it is si inspiring! It's really fun to go through pages with my children and they love being part of making some of food art together on the weekends.

p.s. I had so much fun making her Piggy Spam Musubi bento! http://www.justonecookbook.com/piggy-spam-musubi-bento/

Review
"A top selection of submission stories to tantalize anyone craving some darker, well-written smut."
—Library Journal

"This intense collection of 21 stories is less for ladies with fuzzy pink handcuffs and schoolgirl outfits, and more for those who are seriously into BDSM. King (Under Her Thumb) collects only the hardest and most extreme."
—Publishers Weekly

"Award-winning author and editor D. L. King has bound together an exciting erotic experience sure to tie you up for hours and hours."
—Sex in Words

"Kinky erotica that delivers what it claims to. BDSM and D/s relationships galore, this anthology is hot as hell."
—On Her Back

"A delightful book for those into or curious about BDSM!"
—Yolanda Shoshana

"The stories D. L. King has curated in Slave Girls are hot and dirty—and if you’ve been harboring a secret desire to submit, somewhere deep down inside your soul, this is a book that will make you tremble."
—Tamsin Flowers

"It's a delightful book for those into or curious about BDSM!"
—Yolanda Shoshana

"These hot new tales of female submission depict an array of ways women can and do submit to another person. By relinquishing power in a scene one is free to fully experience the now; they can feel the feels, taste the tastes, not to mention shiver in the unknown rushes of sensations ranging from pleasure to pain and back again."
—Geeky Nymph

"The scenarios in these stories, as well as in the collection as a whole, breathe life into tired tropes. There is humor and humanity in these pages, and I gobbled them up with the same fascination I felt watching Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Secretary for the first time. I love it when a collection makes me think or feel, and this one did both."
—Malin James

From the Back Cover
The Gift of Submission

Forever in an electric dance of give and take, pleasure and power are inextricably linked. In Slave Girls, award-winning eroticist D. L. King pulls back the velvet curtain to reveal a world where every sexual fantasy is realized, a world driven by women devoted to their own desires and their dominants. These Slave Girls want nothing more than to willingly relinquish control to the capable hands of the right Master. Trained and tested to suit every sexual taste, these women learn the ropes—literally. A hassle-filled day turns on a dime when a strong Dom takes charge in Victoria Behn’s “Hell-Bent for Leather.” In Giselle Renarde’s “Postcards from Paris,” one good girl lives for her daily dose of discipline and tough love. The thrill of being in service to a stranger compels the lust-filled sub in Rachel Kramer Bussel’s “Out of Sight.” Your own desires may surprise you after finishing the submissive exploits of Slave Girls.

D/s from the s' point of view
By Terrance Aldon Shaw
There's a lot of terrific writing in this abundant, sharply-focused theme anthology from editor D.L. King. "Slave Girls" is a collection of twenty-one surprisingly diverse short stories exploring the `s' in D/s, from the sometimes breathless, needy, longing, hungry, defiant, curious, occasionally reluctant, perpetually horny point of view of the submissives themselves. Several of these stories are undoubtable masterpieces of the subgenre: Alison Tyler's "Cubed"; Lisabet Sarai's "Muse"; "Dirty Pictures" by Thomas S. Roche; the beautiful, imaginative and poignant "My Master's Mark" by Lydia Hill; Erzabet Bishop's "The Red Envelope"; Teresa Noel Roberts' "Bridle Party". Nina Fairweather's "Press My Buttons" deftly explores the inner workings of a would-be submissive's mind. Equally impressive is the understated yet wholly ineluctable eroticism of Donna George Storey's Passing the Final. Not relying on kinks or paraphilic gimmickry, never descending into raunchiness or vulgarity, the aphrodisiacal potency of the writing is nonetheless undeniable. I particularly enjoyed Summer Marsden's stylish, character-driven, inward-probing "Breathe":

"Breathing is the first thing an anxious person forgets to do, and then they wonder why they feel as if they're drowning. Breathing is the first thing that Nick helped me with when our relationship went from part-time play-and-fuck-buddies to something more. He tells me what to do at times like this. I do it. It is simple and perfect as that. A mystical symbiosis on which words would be lost."

Clearly, what's good here is very good indeed. There are, however, a few issues with what I will diplomatically refer to as the "second-tier" stories in this collection; poorly conceived points-of-view; amateurish malapropism, a retreat to platitude and shallow stereotype, and a discouraging sense that some of these authors' hearts weren't in the project. Second-person point-of-view is infuriating when it isn't boring. Aside from the fact that I have no interest in being made a de-facto character in an author's story, the conceit doesn't--can't--work because the author doesn't know me, doesn't understand my motivations and desires, what turns me on or makes me tick. Second-person also lends itself to a kind of soporifically sing-songy backing and forthing "I do this/You do that" ad nauseum. Employ this kind of writing in erotica and what inevitably results is the literary equivalent of a checklist for an oil change. It was probably not wise to open the collection with a story written in second-person, though as with any anthology, readers are under no obligation to take the contents in the order of presentation, and may "skip around" at will.

Malapropism, if sufficiently glaring, can effectively put me off a story, especially if other issues have already gotten my attention. Authors, please repeat after me; "crescendo" does not mean "climax"; you don't "build up to a blazing crescendo"; the crescendo IS the building up. I was already sufficiently annoyed with one of the other stories not to overlook the author's use of `attenuated' when the word obviously ought to have been `acclimated'. Honestly, one can look this stuff up--and, clearly, many people need to.

Beyond these basic technical considerations, there are a few aesthetic and philosophical issues to give thoughtful readers pause. I have to admit that I am weary of power-exchange stories in which Domination is reflexively (and simplistically) equated with Sadism and, conversely, submission with weakness. There is, too often, an unarticulated assumption to the effect that submissive tendencies indicate a psyche that is less than whole, and submissives--especially female submissives--are accordingly portrayed as naive, airheaded pushovers, willing to be used, humiliated, and hurt beyond the point of reason and safety simply in order to feel loved and wanted. In fact, the best subs in fiction--and in life--are often plucky, strong-willed, fully actualized, "totally together" human beings who know precisely what they want, just as the best Doms know when to "try a little tenderness", lighten up and show due affection.

In addition to negative stereotypes, I got the impression that some of the authors here either had no real life experience on which to draw (or, perhaps, no life whatsoever), or were simply going through the motions of telling a steamy story without stretching their imaginations too terribly far. Is it possible to write convincingly about an act that doesn't really turn one on? An act one would never truly enjoy in real life? Some writers pride themselves on their imagined ability to work in any genre, slipping into the established modes of convention the way many people change clothes in the course of a day, but just as genuine passion always shines through, indifference renders even the most engaging subjects drab and tedious. I do not like having to read that kind of writing.

Still, on balance, the good and the great in this collection far outweigh the mediocre and the mundane. Highly recommended for its ample trove of gems.

Delightfully Boundary-Pushing
By Rebecca
I'm not the sort of girl who likes to use silky scarves for restraints, or thinks a gentle tap on the rear counts as a spanking. I like my kink intense, boundary-breaking, and maybe even a little shocking at times. Every page of Slave Girls was a page-turning, edge-of-my-seat experience, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys their fantasies on the kinkier side of things. I can personally guarantee that this reading will inspire at least one new fantasy, and make for hours of reading pleasure, whether alone or with a partner. Doms, subs, and switches alike will love this collection!

Ruler of the World: Empire of the Moghul, by Alex Rutherford

Alex Rutherford's internationally bestselling series continues with the story of the third great Moghul emperor, Akbar, leader of a triumphant dynasty that contained the seeds of its own destruction.

Akbar, ruler of a sixth of the world's people, colossally rich and utterly ruthless, was a contemporary of Elizabeth I, but infinitely more powerful. He extended his empire over much of Asia, skillfully commanding tens of thousands of men, elephants, and innovative technology. And despite the unimaginable bloodshed that resulted from it, his rule was based on universal religious tolerance.

However, Akbar's home life was more complicated. He defied family, nobles, and mullahs to marry a beautiful Rajput princess, whose people he had conquered; but she hated Akbar and turned Salim, his eldest son, against him. What's more, as any Moghul prince could inherit his father's crown and become emperor, his sons were brought up to be intensely competitive and suspicious of each other: to see each other as rivals for the greatest prize of all. And, as Salim grew to manhood, the relationship between father and son became tainted by rebellion and competition to be the greatest Moghul of them all.

Ruler of the World
Part IFrom Behind the VeilChapter 1Sudden DangerNorthwestern India, 1556

Alow rumbling growl rose from the dense acacia bushes thirty yards away. Even without it Akbar would have known the tiger was there. Its musky scent hung in the air. The beaters had done their work well. While moonlight still silvered the hills in which Akbar's army was encamped, a hundred miles northeast of Delhi, they had started towards the small forest where a large male tiger had been sighted. The village headman who had brought word of it to the camp, saying he had heard that the young Moghul emperor was fond of hunting, claimed it was a maneater that in the last few days had killed an old man labouring in the fields and two small children as they went to fetch water. The headman had left the camp well rewarded by Akbar, who could hardly contain his excitement. Bairam Khan, his guardian and khan-i-khanan - commander-in-chief - had tried to dissuade him from the hunt, arguing that with the Moghuls' enemies on the move this was no time to be thinking of sport. But a tiger hunt was too good to miss, Akbar had insisted, and Bairam Khan, a faint smile lightening his lean scarred face, had finally agreed. The beaters had employed the age-old hunting practices of the Moghul clans brought from their homelands on the steppes of CentralAsia. Moving quietly and methodically through the darkness, eight hundred men had formed a qamargah, a huge circle about a mile across, around the forest. Then, striking brass gongs and beating small, cylindrical drums suspended on thongs round their necks, they had begun closing in, forming a tighter and tighter human barrier and driving all kinds of game - black buck, nilgai, and squealing wild pigs - into the centre. Eventually, as the light grew stronger, some of them had spotted tiger tracks and sent word to Akbar, following the beaters on elephant-back.The beast on which Akbar was sitting high in a jewelled canopied howdah also sensed that the tiger was close. It was swinging its great head from side to side and its trunk was coiling in alarm. Behind him Akbar could hear the elephants carrying his bodyguards and attendants also restlessly shifting their great feet. 'Mahout, quieten the beast. Hold it steady,' he whispered to the skinny, red-turbaned man balanced on the elephant's neck. The mahout at once tapped the animal behind its left ear with his iron ankas, the rod he used to control it. At the familiar signal, the well-drilled beast slowly relaxed to stand motionless again. Taking their cue from it, the other elephants also ceased their fidgeting and a profound silence fell.Excellent, thought Akbar. This was the moment when he felt most alive. The blood seemed to sing in his veins and he could feel his heart thump, not with fear but with exhilaration. Though not yet fourteen, he had already killed several tigers, but the battle of wits and of wills, the danger and unpredictability, always excited him. He knew that if the tiger suddenly broke cover, it would take him only an instant to pluck an arrow from the quiver on his back and fit it to his taut-stringed, double-curved bow - the weapon most hunters would use against such quarry. But Akbar was curious to see what a musket could do, especially against such a monster as this was reputed to be. He prided himself on his skill with a musket, and despite his mother's remonstrances had spent far more hours practising his marksmanship than at his studies. What did it really matter if he couldn't read when he could outshoot any soldier in his army? The tiger had stopped growling and Akbar sensed its amber eyes watching him. Slowly he rested the slender engraved-steel barrel of his matchlock musket on the side of the howdah. He had already loaded the metal ball, trickled gunpowder from his silver-mounted powder horn into the pan and checked the short, thin length of fuse. His qorchi, his squire, half crouching close beside him, was already holding the burning taper Akbar would need to ignite the fuse.Satisfied, Akbar aimed his musket at the densest part of the acacia bushes where he was certain the tiger was hiding, braced his shoulder to the ivory-inlaid wooden butt and squinted down the length of the long barrel. 'Hand me the taper,' he whispered to his qorchi, 'and signal to the beaters.' Clustered in a semicircle behind the elephants, the beaters at once broke into high-pitched yells and began striking their gongs and beating their drums. Moments later, with an answering roar, the tiger burst through the screen of acacias. Akbar saw a blur of long white teeth and gold and black fur leaping towards his elephant as he lit the fuse. There was a brilliant flash, then a deafening bang. The musket's recoil knocked Akbar backwards, almost somersaulting him out of the howdah, but not before he had seen the tiger drop to the ground, still ten yards away. As the smoke cleared, Akbar saw the animal lying motionless on its side, blood pouring from a jagged hole above its right eye.Akbar gave a yell of triumph. Without waiting for the mahout to bring his mount - which had reacted with admirable calmness to the charge of the tiger and the sharp crack of the musket - to its knees, he climbed, grinning broadly, over the side of the howdah and dropped lightly to the ground. He'd made a fine kill, a perfect kill. He'd proved to the doubters who insisted a musket was too slow for killing such prey that in the hands of a good marksman it was easily fast enough. Curious to inspect the dead beast, Akbar advanced closer. The tiger's pink tongue, lolling flaccidly from its mouth, was already attracting green-black flies. Then Akbar noticed something else protruding through the thick belly fur. Teats. The tiger he'd been hunting was supposed to have been male. The thought was swiftly followed by another that made the hairs on the back of his young neck lift. With trembling fingers Akbar yanked his bow from his shoulder and, reaching behind him, grabbed an arrow. He was still fitting it to the string when a second and massive tiger launched itself out of the acacias straight towards him. Somehow Akbar managed to fire his arrow, and then time seemed to stop for him. The clamour of warning shouts behind him faded and it was as if he and the tiger were alone. He watched his arrow very slowly part the air in its flight. The tiger too looked almost suspended in its leap, saliva-flecked lips drawn back, long canines prominent and ears flattened against its head, like the image etched on the golden ring that had once belonged to Akbar's great ancestor Timur and was now on his own shaking forefinger. Then, suddenly, time rushed forward again and the tiger was almost on him. Akbar jumped aside, closing his eyes as he did so and expecting at any moment to feel claws ripping into his flesh or smell hot, rancid breath as sharp teeth sought his throat. Instead he heard a skidding thud and opened his eyes to see the tiger crumpled up beside him, his arrow embedded in the crimsoning fur of its throat. For a moment Akbar stood in silence, knowing he had experienced something almost unknown to him - fear - and also that he had been very, very lucky.Still dazed, he caught the sound of rapidly approaching hoofbeats and turned to see a rider weaving through the low scrub and spindly trees towards them. It must be a messenger from the camp, no doubt sent by Bairam Khan to hurry him up. Five minutes ago he'd have been annoyed to have his sport interrupted but now he felt grateful for the distraction from thoughts of what might have happened. The crowd of beaters, guards and attendants parted to let the rider through. His tall bay horse was foamy with sweat and he himself so caked with dust that his tunic of bright Moghul green looked almost brown. Reining in before Akbar, he flung himself from the saddle, made the briefest of obeisances and said breathlessly, 'Majesty, Bairam Khan requests that you return to the camp immediately.''Why?''Delhi has fallen to an advance force of Hemu's rebels.'

Four hours later, as the hunting party with Akbar at its head passed through the first of the picket lines thrown out around his camp, the sun was still high in the clear blue sky. Despite the tasselled brocade canopy shading him, Akbar's head ached. Sweat was sticking his tunic to his body, yet he barely noticed the discomfort as he pondered the disastrous news of the loss of his capital. Surely his rule was not destined to be over almost before it had begun. It was barely ten months since, on a makeshift brick throne hastily erected on a masonry platform in the centre of a Moghul encampment, he had been proclaimed Emperor of Hindustan. Still raw with grief at the sudden death of his father, the Emperor Humayun, he had stood awkwardly but proudly beneath a silken awning to receive the homage of Bairam Khan and his other commanders. His mother Hamida had only recently succeeded in convincing him just how desperate that time had been. How Bairam Khan, despite his Persian origins, had understood better than anyone that in the first hours and days after his father's death the danger to Akbar came from within - from ambitious commanders who, now the emperor was dead leaving only a boy as heir, might claim the throne for themselves. Most were men with no time for sentiment. Many were from the old Moghul clans who with Akbar's grandfather Babur had founded a new empire on the dry plains of Hindustan. The code of the steppes, had always been taktya, takhta, 'throne or coffin'. Any who felt strong enough could challenge for the crown and over the years many had done so and would do so again.Akbar's elephant stumbled, jerking him from his recollections, but only for a moment. Great historical fiction
By zelda marie 33
Excellent historical fiction od one of the lesser-known ruling dynasties. (Well, lesser-known to those of us in the US and UK anyway) Well-done historically based series of the Moghul emperors. I have read all 5 and thoroughly enjoyed them.

The (Abbreviated and Simplified) History of the Timurid Empire (aka The Moghul Empire)
By ShaukatK
Of interest to me as part of the Greater Indian Diaspora. An exciting read, but perhaps not entirely historically accurate. I highly recommend the entire series to those interested in the Moghul Empire; one the greatest and wealthiest in history.

Another Epic series....
By CoastalGal
I am an absolute history reader but sometimes the history books can be dry and long winded. This keeps it feeling real and like your a bystander in the telling. I purchased the whole series and was not disappointed. The complex and simple ideologies of war and conquer.

The Dark Worship: The Occult's Quest for World Domination, by Toyne Newton

Back when Ronald Reagan was president, it was considered scandalous that Nancy Reagan consulted psychics and astrologers to plan her husband's political decisions. How tame those activities seem when compared to world leaders who've been involved in the occult over the centuries, using witchcraft and black magic to take power and expand their rule. A historian of the occult sheds new light on the influence of groups such as the Gnostics, Sufis, Assassins, Druids, Templars, and other secret societies whose members have included British and French royalty and leaders in modern American governments. Little-known groups such as the Black Sorcerers, Friends of Hekate, and Zoroastrian Priesthood receive their notorious due, with photos of worship sites, ritual objects, and hidden documents.

About the Author
For nearly 25 years, Toyne Newton has been gathering information on and researching the extent and power of mystical organisations. His previous book, The Demonic Connection, exclusively revealed the existence of a secret order of occultists - after which stories began to filter through into the mass media. In The Dark Worship, he presents the full results of his findings in a unique body of work.

No conclusion and terribly researched
By A Customer
Toyne Newton's book had me intrigued in the first few chapters, although I've never in my life heard of this group he refers to as the "Friends of Hekate," and then I began to realize that this book has a huge bias slant against both witchcraft and occultism. I'm not even sure if he himself would be able to discern between the two if put on the spot.
Throughout the text he continuously refers to the persons he's investigating as "corrupt" magicians or occultists, and makes many references to witches being of the same stock. Yet it has been my understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong) that in the occult there are no good or evil forces at work, per se: there is only the flesh and the spirit. Newton accuses this mysterious Friends of Hekate of many things, associates them with figures from Europe's past, but with no evidence except his own assumptions, hunches, and the opinions of New Age psychics with what appears to be little or no formal occult or mystical training whatsoever.
The witches of Europe's past have been ridiculed and persecuted before and this book is a blatant smack in the face due to its lack of understanding. And as for the occult, of which I am a student, I think it would aid Toyne Newton to possibly research the occult and mysticism directly rather than reading other so-called occult researchers. It's like a bunch of frightened kids looking into a dark room through a little window, each sharing his or her own fears and building up this paradigm in their own minds of what it is, yet only seeing a little aspect of it and only from one perspective.
This focus on dark forces and "corrupt" magical and psychic work being done on ley lines and sacred sites in the United Kingdom, might it be difficult work to try to correctify the problems of the world? Perhaps because the shift is in work, from one aeon to the next, that it requires conscious effort on the part of those in the know? Maybe at the rate the human race is going it takes covert work, so fools like Newton don't begin the persecution anew? And if it feels so "malign" and evil to Newton and his psychic friends, I must wonder if they stopped to contemplate that because their energy perpetuates the age of the Kali Yuga (or Ragnarok), that anything new and different might appear frightening to them? With such closed minds, it doesn't strike me as odd that they would be afraid of the occult and the changes that educated people are trying to make, and because they allow their fears to manifest from the spirit world, through them, into this world, they take this stance of righteousness against evil because they feel their fears are justified.
At the end of the book, Newton ties in the Friends of Hekate, the occult, witchcraft, et cetera, with the conspiracy theories of extremist David Icke and tries to associate those he's pointed his finger at throughout the book with those of the Bilderburg Conference. I wonder if he never stopped to ponder that maybe there are occultists out there trying to stop those of the Bilderburg? It's media pawns like him that allow their fears to get the best of them and they publish scrap like this to promote the biased view.
Of course, this is only my personal opinion. I only finished this book so that I could honestly review it and not knock it only having read some of it.

An ostenatious title
By Christopher K. Halbower
This book is essentially a history of Hekate worship. The author delves deeply into the history of Hekate worship in all its various forms. Those of you interested in neo-paganism, this book gives a great deal of information on the mythology of this sect. The author's scholarship here is commendable and thus I gave him 3 stars.

However, the subtitle, "The Occult's Quest for World Domination" is a bit over the top. This title is a marketing ploy to catch people's attention (it got mine). The author's research into the mythology of Hekate is lucid; his case for a secret cabal trying to control the world is not. Newton claims that there exists a satanic cult that encompasses many prominent leaders in the U.S. and the U.K. but doesn't offer any details let alone any proof.

If you are looking for a book on the mythology and history of Hekate worship, along with modern examples of it, this book is fine. If you want a book that deals with the occult conspiracy to conquer the world, better tomes exist.
