About the Author
Scott Dodson is an Associate Professor of Law at William and Mary Law School. Professor Dodson is a scholar in the areas of civil procedure and federal jurisdiction, and he has published articles in Stanford Law Review, Michigan Law Review, University of Pennsylvania Law Review, Virginia Law Review, and Northwestern University Law Review, among others. His writings have been cited four times by the U.S. Courts of Appeals, and he is a frequent commentator in various news media. Professor Dodson graduated cum laude from Duke Law School in 2000, where he was an editor of the Duke Law Journal. He then clerked for the Honorable Nicholas G. Garaufis in the Eastern District of New York and began several years of litigation practice for private law firms and the federal government before entering academia. He previously taught at the University of Arkansas School of Law and Duke University School of Law. Stephen M. Sheppard, the series editor, is the William H. Enfield Professor of Law at the University of Arkansas School of Law.

Amazing Supplement for Civil Procedure

This is an Excellent Supplement on Civil Procedure

has excellent sample answers and each section gives a brief overview on the subject
and explains the topic then gives very detailed questions and answers by each specific topic on civil procedure

the stuff on res judicata was amazing

this book, together with the aspen book by richard freer's civil procedure is enough to get you that A in your class

GREAT METHOD WITH A COMPLICATED AUDIO SEQUENCE!
I am Jack Richards' big fan and I have read some of his books, including theoretical ones, like PRACTICE TEACHING - A REFLECTIVE APPROACH (Cambridge).
I have used all levels of Interchange former editions (with cassettes), and New Interchange (with videotapes), and I ordered the fourth edition because of audio CD. To tell you the truth, I'm disappointed with it. There isn't a clear indication for dialog sequence in audio CD. It's hard to follow it. The listenings in audio CD are different from the book dialogs. I know they are for complementary practice, but I wish I could listen to the book conversation too.
But it does not mean the book is a bad one. Actually, I love Jack Richards' methods and I have used them a lot. They help me to explain my students how to teach English as a foreign language.
All Interchange volumes bring a PLAN OF BOOK (in the beginning) with language four skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) integrated, English grammar and language functions through interesting topics. Then, they are perfect to advise my students how to plan their English lessons, using those PLAN OF BOOK to clarify language functions.
Besides all that, the teacher's edition provides several extra activities and suggested answers to the student's exercises.
This fourth edition also has a CD-ROM to students' practice.
All Interchange methods have a workbook and student's book too, besides aural devices.
I have already used Richars' (NEW) PERSON TO PERSON too, and it was easy to follow the aural exercises, because it had the tapescript written in the book. So I could choose the unit I wanted quickly.
If I had any chance, I would dare to suggest Professor Jack Richards think about adding a DVD to his fifth edition with interesting subjects and diverse events like lectures, talk shows and other academic activities, providing a table of contents to DVD listening, of course.
I'm looking forward Richards' new edition with DVD and (an advanced level) book for academical purpose, because I
teach English to university students (of different courses), and it's difficult to adquire modern methods with updated topics and interesting issues in high level in Brazil. I mean, with good audio (native speakers) to practice both oral and written English.

The Book is excelente but I find the dvd that accompanied it incomplete. It doesnt have any of the listening exercises that are in the lessons. Tried to contact the publisher but received no response.

A great study guide!

Father Thomas Santa's Essential Bible Handbook offers expert guidance for Catholic Bible study activity.

Father Santa, a popular author and teacher, reviews the history of the scriptures and the oral and literary traditions that underpin them. To facilitate study, he also provides helpful summaries of the major themes of each book of the Bible.

He grounds the sacraments in scripture and provides citations. He offers helpful prayer techniques -- such as praying with scripture and praying with major biblical personalities --with suggestions on how to approach them. Other highlights include an eight day retreat plan and a beautiful scriptural rosary detailed with instructions in Chapter 9.

The entire text is indexed to the Catechism of the Catholic Church by paragraph. Also, an extensive glossary is provided to help with further study.

Father Santa's clear, straightforward style and easy expertise with this subject make this book very reader-friendly. It is a wonderful study guide!

A great insight on the Bible's role in Catholic spirituality

The Essential Bible Handbook is a wonderful tool for understanding the Bible from a Catholic Christian perspective. A discussion of Biblical interpretation is included as well as tips for useful Bible study methods. The origins and focus of each book of the Bible are discussed and a section on using the Bible in prayer is included. Catholics have a different relationship with the Sacred scriptures than their protestant brethren. This book is great for the Catholic seeking to know the Bible better or for the protestant wishing to understand how Catholics view the Bible and its place in Catholic Christianity.

I love the grunge bands, especially Alice in Chains, and bought this with birthday money for Amazon. From the first words I was engrossed. The author constructs an impressively complex portrait of a fairly enigmatic band. From the beginning you know where the story is going (if you're familiar with Alice) and as it progresses it becomes more and more heartbreaking as the details surrounding Layne and Mike Starr's addiction unfolds. I would highly recommend this book not just for fans of the band, but for those seeking to understand addiction in general.

If there's some minor quibbles, it's these 2 points. One is I would've liked to have learned more about Jerry Cantrell, who undoubtedly was an important creative force behind the music. Granted, this is an unauthorized account, and Cantrell didn't offer his blessing with access. There is some information about him, but nothing compared to the attention given to Layne. Another source of irritation was how sometimes the author didn't clarify who some of the minor players associated with the band were. Lots of people are referenced with few sticking details provided to distinguish them throughout the book. But these are minor gripes.

I loved this book. Get it if you're even the least bit interested in AIC. The journey is as difficult and uncomfortable as some of their best music.A fitting tribute to a legendary band.

I've been listening to AIC since I picked up a copy of Facelift on cassette way back in the early 90's. I was hooked immediately and have been ever since. Unfortunately, because of this I witnessed the rise and fall of this epic band. The really weird part is that through the years nothing has really ever been openly documented in one well compiled, deeply detailed, and verified account of what really happened behind the scenes. This book did just that and did it well. I feel like I actually have a much clearer picture of what could be called the rise and fall of the first iteration of this band. The dismissal of Mike Starr, the integration of Mike Inez, Layne's drug use and how it affected the band in so many ways. This book also proved to be one of the most depressing books I've ever read regarding the tragic loss of such great talent to an out of control drug addiction. The death of Andrew Wood, the loss of Demri Parrott, Layne's spiral into the abyss, and finally Mike Starr's tragic end. Even if you aren't an Alice in Chains fan, this book really does give you a great insight into the Seattle music scene during the late 80's and early 90's. Well worth the read.

A Must-read for AIC fans

David de Sola did a great job in gathering information for this book and it's refreshing to see how true he kept to the story of the band. Even almost 12 years after the death of Layne Staley it's still hard not to be angry at how the industry used him up and spit him out and how oblivious his family was. It was hard to read the chapters about Layne and his slow death without wishing you could jump into the pages and change the outcome. I wish Jerry and Sean would have contributed and I wish Layne's mother would have too. I think the time and effort de Sola really shows.
I will say that the writing style was a bit different but once the flow got going it read very fast.

Weber State has a very large Health Professions school, and GOB is geared at students with little or no experience in chemistry (notably Allied Health and Nursing majors).

same as 4th just with slightly rearranged homework problems!!

If I could I would give this book ZERO stars.

It is the exact same book as the 4th edition only the lovely publishers updated it by making the pages thinner, the binding weaker, and slightly rearranging the homework problems that appear at the end of each chapter. Mind you all the problems are the exact same, just numbered differently to force students to by the new more expensive book so they can turn in their homework.

Suggestion save over 175 dollars buy the 4th edition (as it is made much better, in addition to being cheaper) go to your schools library and renumber your 4th editions homework problems to reflect the order of this edition. I did this, it took only 30 mins and I saved 200 dollars!!!

Or don't if your instructor does not require you to do homework--just buy the 4th edition and save a ton of money. =)

Also, my 4th edition (bought here on Amazon) HAS the solution section too.

Lucid, Relevant, Cohesive

Let me start by saying that I had a horrible experience with general chemistry in college where we used Zumhdal. Everything was mathematical in nature and it was all just measurements and calculation. With this book, math is kept to a minimum and you learn the intuition behind chemical concepts independent of the math. On top to of that the explanations themselves are the best I've seen. They are so simple they make this an enjoyable textbook comparable to easy reading. Another thing is that relates the concepts you are learning to real world phenomena. Usually I skip parts like these in textbooks, but these were fascinating and instructive.

Also some one complained that there is no answer key. There are solved example within the text which are all you need. The problems at the end are so easy that you don't need an answer key anyway. I still highly recommend this for self study if, especially if you like or plan on doing life sciences.

I feel that this book is not properly represented by the reviews here which don't really comment on its quality as a textbook so I was prompted to write a more substantial review. Well done Stoker.

I Had to Teach Myself

Unfortunately, as most textbooks are, this one is costly, but I was fortunate enough to save some money buying it off of Amazon than from the school bookstore. (I was also able to sell it back on Amazon for a cheaper price, to try to help out fellow broke students, so it really only cost me around $50 in the end.) However, this book helped me get through Chemistry, as my professor was hardly a teacher, being severely unclear and unhelpful in his lectures. The material in the book is written and displayed well enough that I was able to "teach myself" through the chapters with the practice questions and practice tests.
