I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!

This book very much does not tell you how to start your own publishing company. The title is very misleading. This is a scam and I want my money back.
The book contains absolutely no useful information. The author's business advice is as basic and as worthless as "pick a business name", and "set up an online domain."
Wasting a very large part of the book talking about record label contracts (which has nothing to do with the promise made by the books title) and royalties, the book says nothing at all about how to solicit the music you own, and generate the actual "business" required to validate your business. NBC, Coke, McDonalds, etc. need songs for commercials. Daily these "want ads" go out and Publishing/Licensing companies receive them. To REALLY be able to start a publishing company, you will need access to these "want ads". This book makes no mention of them. It actually makes no reference at all as to what you are supposed to do with the songs once you aquire them. The only scenario discussed in this book is based on the idea that you will get a big name artist to perform the songs. How exactly do you do that? The book doesn't tell you. Ninety percent of the publishing business involves TV, Film, Video Games, etc, and none of this is mentioned in this book.
My favorite waste of time was Chapter 3 "Securing membership of performing and mechanical societies." What the title of this chapter means is simply, you should join ASCAP, or BMI, or SESAC, or any of the others. The author takes an entire chapter to say nothing more than, pick one and fill out their application.
This book did not tell me anything I did not already know. If an individual does not know the simple steps outlined in this book, then the more complicated steps not mentioned therein will prevent that individual from successfully starting a publishing company. A more accurate and honest title of the book would have been "a beginner's introduction to the world of music publishing." Also, this book should not have included the misleading and false tag line "everything you need to know to succeed in the world of music publishing."
Do not buy this book. Not sure if I mentioned this already, but I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!

Dennis Sinnot definitely knows his way around the music industry. This book was not only incredibly helpful, but full of optimism and encouragement. (Like a mentor within the book.)

Excellent Information

I'm in the process of starting my own music publishing company and I found the material in this book very current and relevant. I've read many books on music publishing and I'd recommend this to anyone starting their own business in music publishing. It's an easy read and not full or complex legal jargon that a lot of other music publishing books are. It has easy to follow action steps to take when starting up.
