Ernest Clark, Jr. is a PhD candidate at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. He was formerly the Discipleship Director at Rocky Bayou Christian School in Niceville, Florida. He wrote this book for his children. You’re welcome to read it, too.

Excellent Study of the Old Testament

I highly recommend this study. I just finished the first quarter of this book and look forward to continuing. The author helps the reader to make connections between several different passages within the Bible by offering cross-references to read and consider. He also frequently reminds the reader of God's commands to Israel and of the consequences of their obedience and disobedience. It's very thought-provoking while offering a good overview of the Old Testament and helping the reader to see the larger picture of God's plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. It has been very helpful to discuss the lessons with others to help bring clarity to some of the questions and to meditate together on God's absolute control of everything. Also, it's been good to learn from the examples of the many, many different characters in the Old Testament stories.

I recommend this book for any serious student of God's Word.

I have taught through most of this book with my Bible classes at Rocky Bayou Christian School. While it is challenging, this is a valuable curriculum, and can help us to think the way that we were intended to think about the Holy Scriptures. God's telling one story, all connected, from beginning to end, and we need to know it, be encouraged by those who have gone before, find our own place in it, and prepare for those who will come after us. This book is a valuable resource in pursuing this goal. One caveat, this book is largely keyed to the ESV study Bible, though it is secondarily keyed to the NIV study Bible (which may not be available any more).

Really helpful in pushing me to explore the Bible more

I've just finished lesson one (of 600 lessons in the book). I must admit that I thought some of the "assignments" in the lesson were a bit cheesy, but after completing them I realised how helpful the assignments were. Writing my own introduction to the book of Genesis really helped me take 5 minutes to pull together all the things I had read in the lesson. I'm really looking forward to lesson 2 tomorrow!
