Excellent balance between legal and business perspectives

This book strikes an interesting balance between legal and business perspectives, a dynamic that often plays out in real world contract negotiations. As a non-attorney contract auditor, I appreciated the legal explanations, definitions and example contract language. The business perspective is very practical and indicates the authors have a great deal of real world experience. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on “Negotiation”, which emphasized enhancing trust and communication as opposed to using trick and gimmicks. The chapter on “Key Compensation Concepts” was extremely thorough and informative in describing different compensation models and the risks associated with each. The risk mitigation advice offered in this book is also insightful.

Great content without the fluff

If you're looking for a book with complex, confusing diagrams and word art pictures this is not the book for you. I found this to be a practical look at the key aspects that firms need to consider when structuring contracts. It is clear that Mr. Humbert has a wide range of experience in this space and he masterfully conveys his breadth of knowledge to both novice and experienced professionals. A must read for those looking for an informative and practical guide to contract and risk management.

If you're in need of knowledge and/or guidance regarding contracts processes and management, this book is invaluable. It's a quick study and full of pertinent information for everyone. Contracts are part of every one's life - this book is critical if you're in business but also valuable for personal negotiations and purchases. Anyone in the Procurement business should buy this book and refer to it regularly. I highly recommend it.
